The NC-4, a Navy-Curtiss flying boat, made history in May 1919 as the first aircraft to fly across the Atlantic, with its journey notably including a crucial stop in Chatham, Massachusetts, for repairs after developing engine trouble, thanks to local help, allowing it to rejoin the mission and ultimately complete the crossing to Lisbon, Portugal.
